My go at the movie meme

Funny how arbitrary some of my choices were, considering there are loads of movies I like as much or more than some of these. Some I would have used but others had already used them. Some I dismissed out of hand as way too obvious, though I know so many I included are too obvious as well. Lots of these are certainly not ones I think of as 'favorites' but rather just movies I liked and thought were good. Some were just toss-up choices of a certain actor/director/writing teams' work. 'Favorite' movie for me is much like 'favorite' song, each day you'll get a different answer...

Enough rambling; here they are...

I ran thru your photos really quickly and only 2 jumped out at me:

9. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
17. L.A. Story

I'll have to look at the rest of them again, as there are a few I think I'd know if I'd looked closer.
Ha, yes on both! Love those two. Choosing L.A. Story was one
of my 'toss-up' entries, as there's several Steve Martin movies
I love...
Like Joy, only two jumped out of me. One of them was the same - Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. The other is 4 - Dangerous Liaisons. How did I leave that off *my* list?
Ha, excellent! Yep, one of my absolute favorites; I'm glad you forgot to add it to your list -- I told David earlier that I'd have definitely included Sense and Sensibility, probably Amadeus, and possibly Importance of Being Earnest, as well. :-D

Heh, and after you identified The Great Escape (another I love),
I right away recognized it.

And hey, happy anniversary! I hope you'll be having a nice romantic evening.. :-)
Hee. Well, you know I'm so bad at this that I expect you could have included films from my list without my even recognising them. I did wonder for a bit if that was The Aviator in there; that is DiCaprio again, isn't it?

I don't get out to all that many movies and when I do it's generally dh's or the children's tastes that dictate what I see. I'll happily watch a thriller or adventure movie, but he's bored by "girls'" films, although he has a great liking for The Princess Diaries (Julie Andrews has something to do with that, I feel). I went to see The Scorpion King with Alexander on the occasion he took the girls to that for the second time. I must start renting movies in the day. Might make me tackle the ironing with more enthusiasm. (Hmmm. Can I bring myself to request a TV aerial socket in the laundry room?)

And hey, happy anniversary! I hope you'll be having a nice romantic evening.. :-)

Thanks!
Dh reappeared upstairs this morning having found my card to say he'd only remembered last night and had hoped he'd get away with it by bringing me something tonight.. I didn't tell him I'd forgotten too. ;-) This twenty years evidently means a lot to both of us!

I so want to play this game. :-) Guess I ought to cross Shawshank Redemption off my own list.

Okay, here goes:

2. Goodfellas
7. Raising Arizona
10. Shawshank Redemption
11. The Usual Suspects (scratch another from my list)
14. Six Degrees of Separation
20. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Wow, nicely done! Ha, I was actually kind of surprised
Shawshank hadn't been mentioned already. A friend got me to
read the Stephen King book it's from, so when the film came
out I made him go see it with me. *g* Excellent movie, the
story is really great, too.

Yeah, Usual Suspects, terrific movie, Kevin Spacey's just fantastic...
Too late again!

Every time I look at one of these movie memes, someone has already got the ones I know. Must do one myself.

Ah, drat; that's usually the case for me, too.

Must do one myself.

Oh yes, you should!

How are you feeling, btw? Any better?
I wish I had time to look through these now, but I really don't. That adds nothing of worth, but I feel better for having said it.
Just two for sure

3. Waiting for Guffman
16. Raise the Red Lantern
Ha, yes!

Guffman was one of my toss-ups in the sense that I like all the Christopher Guest / Michael McKean, etc. movies. I almost used Spinal Tap, but figured that was one of the too obvious choices. ;-)

Red Lantern, I did think you'd be the one to get that one. *g* I really wanted to find a pic of the final shot, her wandering about the courtyard, but not that that would have made it any more identifiable for folks, just a great scene. ;-)

I did identify Whale Rider from yours, and could probably have guessed some you might include...
Without reading the guesses so far:

1. Big Chill
2. Goodfellas
4. Dangerous Liaisons
16. Joy Luck Club (totally a guess because I've never seen it).

Now, how did you get Yahoo Photos to work? It would not upload anything when I tried last night. And now, if #2 is right, I'll have to find another movie before I get it up anyway.
Yes on 1, 2, and 4; 16 I knew would be a bit tricky (Dan got it). It's a film by Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou and it's
really good.

Hm, not sure why Yah photos wouldn't work for you; maybe
clearing cookies or rebooting would help? What was it doing?
1. Big Chill
2. Goodfellas
3. Waiting for Guffman
4. Dangerous Liaisons
5.
6.
7. Raising Arizona
8.
9. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
10. Shawshank Redemption
11. The Usual Suspects (scratch another from my list)
12.
13.
14. Six Degrees of Separation
15.
16. Raise the Red Lantern (which is not a guess and I have seen it)
17. L.A. Story
18.
19.
20. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Yes, that's right, and Neil has added in 5, 12, and 13, so:

1. Big Chill
2. Goodfellas
3. Waiting for Guffman
4. Dangerous Liaisons
5. The Color Purple
6.
7. Raising Arizona
8.
9. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
10. Shawshank Redemption
11. The Usual Suspects (scratch another from my list)
12. Young Frankenstein
13. Trick
14. Six Degrees of Separation
15.
16. Raise the Red Lantern (which is not a guess and I have seen it)
17. L.A. Story
18.
19.
20. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
These are tough, Kelley! I knew a few that other people have guessed: 4, 9, 10, 14 and 20

I don't think anyone has mentioned these three yet:

5. The Color Purple
12. Young Frankenstein
13. Trick

Ha, yes, right on all!

Heh, Young Frankenstein, I almost used a pic that included Teri Garr and Marty Feldman along with Wilder and Boyle, but I thought that made it too easy. ;-)

And yes, Trick -- if you see above one of my replies to Elizabeth (re DiCaprio), that's the one I thought she meant (it wasn't). I do love this movie; even Tori Spelling who makes me gag, did well; probably easy for her as the character's meant to be annoying. :-D
... Cloris Leachman in Young Frankenstein - fabulous!
Ha, oh, wasn't she? Just brilliant... I saw some anniversary program about the movie, interviews with the cast, etc. She commented about the "Ovaltine" scene, said they'd had to do several takes because Wilder kept breaking into laughter at her. She said too that on the take in which they nailed it she could feel it as they were doing it, that it was perfect, the rhythm, etc.
Only three that I can guess at:

1. Jurassic Park
12. Young Frankenstein
18. Three Men and a Baby

and no sense of certainty with those.

I'm trying to imagine Kelley - or anyone - loving or enjoying Three Men and a Baby.
LOL!

Now there's a meme -- "Movies You're Ashamed To Admit You Like" :-D

Though, hey, worth getting a glimpse of the 'Ghost Boy' in that one. ;-)
I'd forgotten the 'liking' bit. Just 'seeing something vaguely familiar-looking' turned out to be a task beyond my abilities.
Am obviously behind on reading LJ (story of my life these days), as the all the ones I know have been guessed. :D
